Show LORJUNE M1IH JUNIOR PENTATHLON HIGH POKIER LoRaine McArthur. a Woodward Wood-ward School boy, again outperformed outper-formed all contestents in the Deseret News Junior Pentathlon held in Salt Lake City on last Saturday. Although LoRaine was high scorer in the junior class, leading his next competitor by j 1 6 points he was not eligible to the chainpi J...-liip honors be- I cause he had won the tK!c 'ist I year Since entering this 0" competition LoRaine has established estab-lished a wonderful record, having taken part in two district and two final state meets and has won all four, proving himself : the finest young athlete in the ' state. The other athletes, who were taken to the meet by Val McArthur Mc-Arthur and Robert Worthen are: Therol McArthur. Dan Worthen, rrd I.eonnard Einnie';, from St. George, and McLloyd "Sullivan of the Hur'-icane High School. This .vas V .Joyd's first - attempt in th.s type of competition and under the circumstances it is felt that he made a fine recoid. LoRaine was first in the Jun ior division with 4221, Dan vvor-i then had 362S and McLloyd Sullivan scored 3562 points. In the Senior division Lennard , Emmett scored 3146 pots and; Therol McArthur 2T37. ! The above scores gave Lo-i Raine and Therol McArthur the j right to receive medals. j LoRaine McArthur made the; following marks in setting the pace in the junior class; four feet ten inches in the h i g h jump, 29 feet 11 : .Ties in the. shot-put; 14 feet 10 inches in the broad jump; 24 baskets and 6.8 in the 50-yard dash. Dan Worthen and Lyle Saxton were second and third to Stay- nel in the high. Lynn Beagley of Spanish Fork was the best broad jumper with a mark of 15 feet 7 inches for 924 points. Joy Merkley of Blackfoot was second and Jack Canning of Midvale third. Therol McArthur McAr-thur of 'Dixie and Verl Smith of Davis tied for the basketball lead with 28 goals and 878 points. |
