Show 1560 IRIS READY TO SAIL FORCE MOBILIZING PREPARATORY TO EMBARKING FOR ORIENT THIS WEEK Orders for the Entire San Diego Marine Aviation Squadron to Sail to China. Washington Thg force of 1560 marines mar-ines now mobilising over the country will begin the long journey to Shanghai Shang-hai this week to meet the request of Admiral C. S. Williams for additional men in view of the increasingly grave plight of Americans in Yangtze treaty ports. A detachment from Quantico, Va., and one from Paris Island, S. C, will leave for San Diego direct, while marines from twelve other bases will assemble at Philadelphia to make the trip across the continent in a body. - The transcontinental journey is expected ex-pected to get under way about Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Major General John A. Le-jeune, Le-jeune, commandant of the marine oorps, said he expected to hear from the various detachments only when they leave their bases for the west coast and when they sail from California Cali-fornia for the orient. He considers it likely that the expeditionary force will Bail April 4 and arrive in Shanghai about three weeks later. |
