Show WOODWARD ! SCHOOL NEWS j j Miss Winsor's third grade closed I their reading contest February 27. jThe children had been divided into three groups according to . their reading ability. The competi- tion was so close that it was ' necessary to give two prizes in each group. Nine hundred forty-nine books were- read by the entire grade. In group one, Bobby Fordham and Dean Snow had each read I fifty-eight books. In group two, Xelma Canfield had read 63 books and Mary Lang 62. In group three, Merlene Whitehead had read 41 books and Tracy Earl 31. Each of these six received a book as a prize. The county spelling contest will be held in the tabernacle Friday, March 6, at 3 .p. m. The Woodward eighth grade basketball bas-ketball team will go to Hurricane Friday where they will play the eighth grade of that school. Dixie College training students are spending this week in the schools of the county doing practice prac-tice teaching to give them an insight in-sight of the work involved in actual classrooms without a senior sen-ior teacher to assist them. They spent Monday and Tuesday observing ob-serving the regular teachers of the various communities, and will teach alone the rest of the week. They will observe other schools of the county and attend meetings in St. George. Training teachers who are in different parts of the county are: Lewis Christian, Gunlock; Clesta Worthen, Leeds; Phil O. Smith, Mrs. Olive Reeve and Joyce Harrison, Har-rison, Hurricane; LeGrande Hafen and Georgia Holt, Enterprise; La-Rue La-Rue Cox, Toquerville; Emma Thompson, Virgin; Virginia Jarvis, La Verkin, and Luetta Imlay, Ar-vilia Ar-vilia Graff and Clair Hafen, Ka-nab. Ka-nab. The county spelling match will be held Friday, March 6, in the tabernacle. Six winners of the four divisions of the county will compete. Six students from each of the ninth and tenth grades of the county will meet for a spelling spell-ing match in the auditorium. " |
