Show TESTS SHOW WATER IS CONTAMINATED State Sanitary Engineer Urges Chlorination of Town's Supply. Three out of five portions of St. George city water taken by C. O. Pickel, state sanitary engineer engi-neer recently while here on an inspection trip, showed contamination contami-nation with B. coli. accordins to a letter received by Mayor H. T. Atkin from the state board of health. The letter follows: "We are enclosing report of bacttriological analysis of water wat-er sample taken by C. O. Pickel while in your town. "From this analysis you can see that the water is contaminated contami-nated with the B. coli since this organism was confirmed in three out of the five 10 c. c. portions analyzed. "The only way that I can account for this contamination is that animals are grazing above the part of the open ditch we visited. While the trough you intend building may ease the situation sit-uation to some extent, it will not eliminate the danger of contamination. contam-ination. For that reason I cannot can-not strongly enough urge you to chlorinate your water. The cost of installing a chlorinating plant is not very high, and it assures you of a safe water supply, sup-ply, which should be the result aimed at in any modern community." |
