Show BMA FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp Stale Loop Opens Sunday The newly formed Utah State Baseball league will get underway under-way this coming Sunday, May 27, with six of ttie seven squads seeing action. The local BDAA nine travels to Provo for an afternoon af-ternoon opener against the Timps at 2:30 p.m. The league was unable to come up with an eighth team, necessitating neces-sitating a bye for one club each round. Games for the new loop have been scheduled for Sundays Sun-days and Wednesdays and this should make the schedules a lot more compact and interesting than in the past. Team Rosier Manager Herb Babcock has announced his squad at the present pres-ent time will consist of the following fol-lowing players: Mickey Culle-ton, Culle-ton, catcher; Cal Crump and George Apostol, first sackers; Larry Johnson, John Garahana, Tom Steinke, Don Gust, infield-ers; infield-ers; Bob .Jenkins, Clare Rager, Harold Yates, outfielders; and his chuckers will be Larry Still-man, Still-man, John Byrge, Gary Beers, Vic Stuckenschneider and Kenny Ken-ny Austin. This roster may be augmented soon with some new faces from college or prep ranks. The local crew lost the services of a fine pitching prospect in a pre-sea-son practice tilt, as Ross Oseguera Ose-guera suffered a spike wound and will be out of the line up for possibly five or six weeks. Practice Tilt Today The BDAA nine is playing host to the Williams Builders Supply team tonight at 5:30 at the Cop-perton Cop-perton stadium, in a practice skirmish. We do not have a complete first half schedule for the State League as yet, but hope to have it in this column next week. The Salt Lake papers may have this information in their papers be-1 fore the opening game Sunday so watch for it. Due to the difficulties met at the late meeting of league officials offic-ials last Friday night, an entirely new schedule had to be drawn up and as yet the league secretary secre-tary has not given us this information. infor-mation. Bingham's Sunday home games gam-es will be scheduled for 4:00 pm. with the Wednesday home games at 8:15 p.m. Our prospective "Old Timers" game is still in the creative stage but we are trying to line it up for our first home game against Magna. o |
