Six Utah high school seniors have been selected to receive college scholarships as dependents depend-ents of Kenneeott Copper Corporation Corp-oration employees, it was. announced an-nounced today by Nelson W. Aldrich, director of public relations, rela-tions, Utah Copper Division. This is the second year such scholarship awards have been presented by Kenneeott Copper Corporation in a program to recognize rec-ognize and give assistance to deserving high school graduates who are dependents of Kenneeott Kenne-eott employees. The six were selected from among applicants from twelve high schools throughout the area. The winners were selected on the. basis of academic capabilities capa-bilities and leadership potentiaL The winners are:. -JoAnn Murano, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Murano of 101 Second East, Copperton, student of Bingham High School. Ellen Elizabeth Thomas, daughter dau-ghter of Mrs. Edna Thompson Thomas of 371 Main, Bingham Canyon, student of Bingham High School. James Melvin Nielsen, son of Mrs. Marie J. Nielsen of 2930 , South 9000 West, Magna, student of Cyprus High School. William Lewis Baker, son of Mrs. Anthony Formisano of 3145 West 3835 South, Salt Lake City, student of Cyprus High School. Gerald Blair Abbott, son of Mrs. Charles K. Jones of 1147 Lorraine Dr., Salt Lake City, student of Granite High SchooL Elwood Hardman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Hardman of Kamas, student of South Summit High School. The six winners will receive $500 scholarships to any accredited accred-ited institution of higher learning learn-ing in Utah offering a baccalaureate baccalaur-eate degree and may enroll for any course of study they desire. Scholarship committees at each high school selected three female and four male students from a-mong a-mong applicants. These were reviewed re-viewed by a Kenneeott scholarship scholar-ship committee for final selection. Six alternates were also named. nam-ed. They are: John R. Sanders and Marian Warthen of Murray HigH School; Joseph J. Wilson, Adriano Martinez, L. E. Miller and Jacqueline K. Dahlstrom, all of Bingham High SchooL |
