Properties of the Denver Tramway company will be sold at public auction at the federal building here September 11. The sale follows an order issued recently by Federal Judge J. Foster Symes terminating ter-minating the receivership of the company com-pany and decreeing that its property be offered for sale. San Diego, Calif. Six F-5-1 coastal seaplanes and twenty-six submarines, destroyers, mine sweepers, aircraft tenders, and tugs will he employed in guarding the sea lanes during the navy's flight of three planes from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor August Aug-ust 28 and 29. San Francisco, Calif. Rumors that Henry Ford will either bid directly or back up bidders on the new contract air mail routes in the western states have been heard here since bids were called for. Acquisition of the Stout Metal Airplane factory by Ford would make such aid to aviation in the west more likely, it is believed here. Portland, Ore. Because more radium ra-dium is available in Portland for treatment of cancer than in any city in the northwest, a movement is being be-ing promoted by local cancer specialists special-ists to make Portland the center for cancer study of building a cancer hospital hos-pital here. Sites are already being considered. Rockwood, Calif. Damage estimated estimat-ed at from $125,000 to $175,000 resulted re-sulted from the tornado which ripped this little Imperial valley town off its foundations. A check up of property prop-erty losses and casualties revealed that only two of the town's approximately approxi-mately twenty buildings were resting rest-ing upon their original sites and that five of the 500 residents were nursing nurs-ing minor injuries. San Francisco. Chester A. Howard a former prohibition agent, was indicted in-dicted by the federal grand jury on a charge of attempting to collect a bribe while he was in the government service. It was learned that the indictment in-dictment was returned after the jury had hear evidence purijoring to show that Howard had solicited money from the father of a seventeen-year-old youth, who was charged with violating vio-lating the Volstead act, on promises to smash the enrages. Billings, Mont.. Two hundred delegates dele-gates from Iowa, South Dakota, Wyo ming and Montana were present at the opening session of the sixth annual an-nual meeting of the Custer Battlefield Highway association, and the ambition ambi-tion to make the highway the, "main street of America" was expressed by Vice President M. Pierre, S. D. Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor arrived in Pierrie to discuss arrangements for Lis proposed Washington-Lincoln memorial to be carved from a rock in the Black Hills. He intends in-tends to go to Rapid City to make an exhaustive survey of the location and the nature of the granite from which the stupendous statue may be carved. The sculptor contemplates no difficulty in obtaining funds for the Black Hills memorial. The project pro-ject has been sanctioned by state and federal governments, but neither authorized au-thorized funds or assumed responsibility responsi-bility for its erection. Sacramento, Calif. Officials of the state corporation department announced an-nounced that corporations staging promot ion -schemes in the stale would he required to place advertising copy in the hands of the corporation commissioner com-missioner before the copy is inserted in the newspapers.
