Show Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-5333 Speaker chosen for graduation Ron Hamblin, former music and drama teacher at Manila High School, was chosen by the graduating class of "83" to be their guest speaker for graduating exercises at 7:30 p.m. on May 27. Christine Jo Triplett is valedictorian and will be giving an address, ad-dress, as will Robin Sadlier, Salutatorian. Manila graduates 14 students this year: Mike Cruz, Alan Friedman, Troy Gale, Robert Hatch, Clayton Keddy, Deanna Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Mit-chell, Dana Parkinson, Janet Rogers, Robin Sadlier, Debbie Sickich, Blaine Thompson, Christine Jo Triplett, and Monica Wilde. The M & L Homemakers held their May meeting Thursday, May 19 at the home of Wanda Larson. The committee commit-tee for the infant car seats reported that they now have nine seats to rent to parents of children ages of four years or younger, inese seats nave been obtained with the help of the Manila Fire Department, the Daggett Lions CLub, and the State Health Department. They are being kept at the Daggett County Courthouse. Anyone needing to rent one may call or see Wanda Larson, Linda Beckstead, or Melanie Son, county nurse. New officers were elected for the club. They are Aleta Ellsworth, president; presi-dent; Clara Robinson, vice-president; and Melna Coleman, secretary and treasurer. The club cook books were discussed. Recipes are still being received from members. Work was done for decorating the fair booth to be held in Rock Springs the first week in August. Monogrammed stick pins were presented to the past three "Homemakers of the year": Mary Steinaker, 1980-81; Clara Robinson, 1981-82; andFerl Briggs, 1982-83. "It" packages were won by Kathy Meinrod and Clara Robinson. Melanie Son, county nurse, came to the meeting to involve the club in the Health Clinic to be held June 14-15. Applications Ap-plications can be obtained at the Manila town office. The next meeting is the annual picnic on June 16. Hostesses for the evening were Ora Iverson, Mabel Anderson, and Barbara Bar-bara Potter. Manila High School students received receiv-ed two "Superior" ratings at the Industrial In-dustrial Arts Fair in Roosevelt on Wednesday, May 18. Clayton Keddy received a "superor" for his coffee table plus a $10 award for the best finish. A chest of drawers made by Mike Nicatera and Denny Hughes also received a "superior". On Thursday, May 19 from 6 to 9 p.m., Manila High School conducted an Industrial Arts Fair in the High School gymnasium. The shop students have been busy this year as some beautiful projects were exhibited including in-cluding clocks, checker boards, war-drobed, war-drobed, hutches, coffee tables, dining tables, water beds, head boards, and stero-cabinets. First place ribbons were won by Clayton Keddy, Eric Shipton, Mike Nicatera, Denny Hughes, and Jerry Keddy. Second place winners were Troy Gale and Robert Hatch. The newly organized Emergency Medical Association of Daggett County is serving a "Pancake Breakfast" on Saturday, May 28 from 6 a.m. until everyone is served. The proceeds will be used to purchase jump suit uniforms for the members of the Association. The Association has nine members at present, but 21 people in Daggett County just completed the EMT course. The breakfast will be served by the new EMTs and the members of the Association. The cost will be $2.50 for adults ; $1.50 for children under the age of 12; and a family ticket for $10. Everyone is welcome. On Saturday a musical "Carnival" was presented by the Manila High School students. The musical was directed by Nancy Nelson, drama and speech instructor. Pianist was Janis Anderson, music teacher. Mrs. Robert Ellsworth was honored with a baby shower at the home of Mrs. Rick Ellsworth on Wednesday, May 18. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Lamb are parents of a daughter born in Rock Springs hospital on Saturday, May 21. The little miss weighed 8 pounds and 3 ounces at birth and will be named Tifannie Marie. The grandparents are Mrs. Velma Wright and the late Eldon Lamb; Mrs. .... ': " 5 if Christine Triplett Brent Ford and Robert Marquez. Dale Briggs was taken to the Sweetwater Sweet-water Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming, following serious head injuries. Mrs. Burl Twitchell underwent surgery in Salt Lake City on Friday. She was reported doing well Sunday t n f t - ' V, . ' ' ' . V Robin Sadlier morning. George Olmsted, who underwent surgery last week is reported to be out of intensive care. He is in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Iverson have returned from a trip to Prague Oklahoma to attend the graduation of their granddaughter, Suzanne Iverson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Murphy were in Orem the past weekend to see their daughter, Debbie. Marshall and Kristee Briggs, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Jr., were home from Brighmam Young University in Pro-vo Pro-vo this weekend. They were accompanied accom-panied by a youth from South America who is attending the university. |
