Show ' i 11 11 Wood-Fired Steam Heat For Cogeneration System The feasibility of constructing con-structing a wood-wastes-fired steamenergy system on the property of an EG&G-owned EG&G-owned paper production company is being studied by EG&G, Inc., and a New England electric utility firm. The EG&G Millers Falls Paper location may be well suited to such a ten to 15 megawatt power plant facility facil-ity due to the availability of wood fuel resources within a reasonable distance of the firm's paper mill operation in northern Massachusetts. If found viable, the facility would be- jointly built -ind owned by EG&G and the utility company. Steam produced by the cogeneration system would be used directly by the paper mill and would also drive steam turbines for generating electricity. That power would be sold to the utility at oil replacement cost rates. Enhancing the potential cost savings of this system is the consideration that most of the facility would qualify for energy tax credits. EG&G SynFuels, Inc., is assisting the project by providing pro-viding extensive financial analysis, using a variety of Tuture energy cost models. The SynFuels subsidiary is also aiding the evaluation or alcohol fuels for state-owned cars in Massachusetts. Us main program, however, is a state-of-the-art commercial coal gasification plant proposed pro-posed for New England. |
