Show Service Dear Editor: Webster's Dictionary defines the word service as "an act of helpful activity; the performing of duties as a servant." It is very unfortunate that many of the local Vernal businesses cannot or will not understand this simple word. Recently I have been doing battle with one particular company, Vernal Cable TV. I find it hard to believe that a group of people, engaged in a service activity, could be so incompetent. Without going into a lot of detail, I have been trying for over a week to get someone, anyone, to come to my house and fix the incoming cable signal. Despite repeated calls and a personal visit to the office, as I write this letter, my television remains unusable. It is very frustrating to keep someone at the house all day, every day in case the service person should happen to decide they've had enough coffee to drink and maybe it's time to actually go to work. Everyone who has been through this certainly understands how I feel, but what can we do? Too many of the businesses that provide services to us are monopolies. I can't call Vernal Cable TV and tell them to forget their service, I'm taking my business elsewhere. That would provide someone with a good laugh. It seems to me that to be a paying customer anymore just means you will not be disconnected. Name Withheld by Request |
