Fishing opener is rcaf c9 good Success in the 1982 Utah General Fishing Opener in the northeastern region was a little slower than last year, mainly due to bad weather conditions on the second day, according to Chad Crosby, fishery manager of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. "Fishing success slowed down after the opening day, but the opener went pretty much the way the Division had predicted. The Division predicted good fishing for the opener. Sheep Creek and Browne Lake were both good fishing. Flaming Gorge Reservoir was poor to fair fishing and the Green River was fair fishing. Steinaker Reservoir was good. Fisherman from boats were more successful than shore fishermen at Steinaker," said Crosby. Crosby added, "Jones Hole Creek was good and the streams that were fishable were fair to good. Red Fleet Reservoir was fair to good fishing, but smaller fish were taken. A few large brown trout were taken at Red Fleet. Crouse Reservoir on Diamond Mountain was poor to fair fishing as Calders Reservoir was fair fishing." "Big Sandwash Reservoir was fair to good fishing and Moon Lake was good. Brough Reservoir was fair to good and fishing at Bullock Reservoir was poor," said Crosby. "Starvation Reservoir received low pressure during the opener." "Some 18 inch fish were taken at Sheep Creek and good size fish from 12 to 17 inches were taken at Steinaker Reservoir. Some fish from 6 to 8 pounds were taken at Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam," said Crosby. It was pretty much a typical fishing opener. Predictions held true with the usual few exceptions. Waters that were expected to be good generally were and those that were not supposed to be good generally weren't. The weather was cold and clear over most of the state Saturday and a mix of everything from snow to rain to sunny 'Sunday. Fisherman counts were high Saturday on the most popular waters and lower Sunday, due in part to the " weather and slower fishing. |
