Show uisinct court arraignment r set for burglary suspect A 21-year-old Denver man was bound " over for trial in 4th District Court on a charge of aggravated burglary of a Vernal store the night of May 21, following follow-ing a preliminary hearing Tuesday in 7th Circuit Court. Chris Clark is accused of breaking into in-to Milt's Merchandise Mart, 528 West Main, while carrying a loaded .25-caliber automatic pistol. Circuit Judge Whitney D. Hammond set Clark's arraignment date in district court for June 8. Clark is being held in the Uintah Countv Jail in lien nf sis n bail. Vernal police officer Dave Madsen testified that he pursued a suspect - through several alleyways in the 500 West block between Main Street and 100 North, and eventually took Clark into in-to custody from under a tree at a residence on the corner of 500 West and 100 North. Under cross examination by defense attorney Ray Nash, Madsen said about an hour and a half passed between the time he lost the suspect in the chase and the time of arrest, when he and detective detec-tive Paul Parker retraced the route of the chase. Madsen testified that the pistol was found in Clark's left rear trouser pocket, loaded and with the safety off. Madsen added that he found three knives in Clark's possession. Clark said he used one of the knives to pry molding off the window where entry was allegedly made, and that he bought the gun a week earlier at a local bar, Madsen testified. Parker testified that fibers were found on the fence surrounding the window win-dow the suspect was seen climbing over. |
