Show Mississippi area, Plains socked by weather Severe storms battered the Plains and parts of the Mississipi Valley this week with threats of flooding and damage to electrical service. Searchers were looking for 70 people unaccounted for Sunday after a tornado a day earlier ripped through Marion, ! 111. National guard troops were called in ' the aftermath of the Marion tragedy, in i which 16 people died. Another 136 were injured and up to $100 million damage -was caused. Thunderstorms were scattered from I Florida and Georgia to Missouri and Colorado. Hail the size of baseballs and winds of 75 miles per hour were reported over the weekend in Oklahoma. According to the National Weather Service, at least 21 tornadoes tourched down Sunday in Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri. |
