Show Summer activites bolster at library Kids will have more ways to keep busy when school lets out and Youth Programs for Summer begin at the Uintah Uin-tah County Library. The successful activities program, directed by children's librarian Melody Kidd, will add puppetry, theater and dancing classes to existing classes m crafts and reading. Mrs. Kidd said Youth Programs was expanded to give kids more of a choice of activities than they might find in summer programs at schools. As an indication in-dication of the kinds of work the kids are doing, one of their projects last summer was a play written by William Shakespeare. Kidd said booklets about Youth Programs Pro-grams for Summer will be handed out when classes come by the library. Children have to register between May 17 and 29 for the programs that begin June 1. Mrs Kidd said Youth Programs for Summer has been going on for the past seven or eight years under the direction of former children's librarian Doris Burton. Youth Programs runs through July and ends with a special display of all activities ac-tivities for parents. Mrs. Kidd is also planning a family movie night twice a month starting in the fall. She will be helped with instruction by assistant library director Evan Baker She is looking for and received some ol- fers from volunteer instructors. An attempt to broaden the program started last year with a production of Shakespeare's play, MacBeth. "I read them a story, and they decided they wanted to do a play," said Mrs. Kidd. "It turned out really well. At first they were hesitant, but it got so they acted out the parts while I narrated." The play came complete with props and costumes. A reading program continues this year, in which children compete to see who can read the most books during the summer. "Dress-up days," displays and movies will emphasize the various themes. Crafts classes for ages 5 to 7 (Fridays) and age 8 and up (Thursdays) will begin the first week of June and July and run for four weeks. A theater class for age 8 and up runs every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p m. starting June 1. A puppetry class for ages 8 and up will be held every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting June 2. A square dance class begins June 2 and will be held every Wednesday from 2pm to 3 p.m. A folk dance class begins June and runs every Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Both classes are for age 8 and older.
