Grant of the LDS church, will be the principal speaker at the Pioneer Day services to be held in the Uintah Stake tabernacle at Vernal Sunday, July 24, according to information informa-tion received by President H. B. Calder. President Grant and a party of more than 12 will also attend the Pioneer Day celebration to be held in Maeser the following day. The program of the UBIC promises to be one of the very best in recent years. All ready the committee has the assurance that a faculty of 14 from the Utah Agricultural college will be in attendance. at-tendance. The University of Utah will conduct the health clinic again this year with a full corp of experts. Hundreds of people have been given direct assistance through this department each year and these people in turn have helped do this until the health work given at the convention of ramifying every section of the Uintah Basin. Dr. Thomas of the University of Utah will be one of the main speakers. Utah's agricultural outlook is much brighter than a year ago, the July 1 estimates showing substantial increases in-creases in the production of all major crops, says a report released Tuesday by Frank Andrews, federal agricultural statistician. Word has been received in Utah, Colorado, Col-orado, Arizona, and Nevada that large delegations of tribesmen will be on hand for the big Sun dance celebration being sponsored by the Koosharem Piutes at Fish Lake July 19 to 24. 30 YEARS AGO July 17, 1952 A ten-act circus will be brought to Vernal on Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26 by the Vernal Lions Club, according accor-ding to an announcement by Lawrence Lee, chairman of the boys and girls committee of the club. Three daily shows will be given by the John Strong's circus troupe, at 2, 5 and 8 p.m. The circus is being sponsored by the club purely to entertain the boys and girls while adults will also be admitted. ad-mitted. Vernal City's Planning Board, under the direction of chairman Ralph Preece, will meet July 28 in the city council room for the purpose of laying out the city in streets which will make better use of the land. This subdividing will be to aid property owners in the proper division of their land to accommodate accom-modate the most people and lots. At one time the large city lots planned by early settlers and were necessary because food had to be raised on city lots, but now very few people have the time or the need for a large lot, and the land can be of much more benefit to land owners, and to the city if the lots are made less deep, according to the board. Two super service stations are now under construction along Vernal Main Street. One of the stations is being set up by A. P. Voorhies at 254 West Main, and the other is being built by Fran Feltch at 188 East Main. Uintah High School Band will go to Salt Lake City next week to participate in the Days of '47 parade, according to the high school music instructor Lawrence Lee, who will be in charge of the trip. |
