Show Lion sponsored for field house According to Art Schaefermeyer, President of the Vernal Lions Club, the Vernal Lions Club is going to help sponsor a Mountain Lion for exhibit at the Utah Field House of Natural History. The Museum has obtained a Mountain Lion through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Animal Damage Control Program. The museum is having the lion mounted for an exhibit. However, money to pay taxidermy costs, approximately $1,000.00, was not part of the museum's budget. So a sponsor was sought. The Vernal Lions Club has agreed to cover the taxidermy expenses. The lion is at the taxidermist now and is expected to be on exhibit some time this fall. The Vernal Lions Club has long been a supportor of the Field House of Natural History (now officially called the Dinosaur Natural History Museum). It was a committee from Vernal Lions Club that originally promoted the idea of a museum in Vernal in the 1940's. During the 1950's the Lions Club raised funds and provided equipment to haul the molds from the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburg, PA., from which the Diplodocus skeleton was made. They have also participated in the Dionosaur Gardens and other projects. Information from Alden Hamblin, Dionsaur Natural History Museum. 789-3799. |
