Show Construction booms in Vernal City limits Construction is booming in Vernal as the city has approved a building permit for nearly $4 million dollars in construction during last May. According to a report from the Vernal City Building Inspector's office last month was the largest so far this year in the number of building permits issued, 50. Total value of the buildings issued permits during May is $3,977,469. Based on figures submitted to the Dodge Report since the first of the year, proposed construction in the city is up 278 percent, said Kent Steed, Vernal Building Inspector. Since last January the city has approved building permits for $9,758,602 total estimated value of construction. During all of last year, building permits totaled about $10 million, Steed said. "So already we're approaching last year's total," he said. The city had approved, since the first of the year, 1,631 building permits for single family dwellings, 389 permits for multi-famly dwellings, 60 permits for multi-home subdivisions, 82 recreational vehicle parks, 1,813 mobile homes, 10 subdivisions, and 976 planned unit developments. Nineteen commercial or industrial building permits have been approved since the first of the year. These include Anderson Lumber 1400 S. U.S. 40, a medical clinic by Dr. Steven Limburge, 71 N. 100 W. , Utah Power and Light, 250 S. 500 E., Smuin Industrial Buildings, 300 S. 1200 E., Gibsons Business Condominiums, 50 E. Main, Richen Offices, 500 S. U.S. 40, Reed's Mobile Homes Sales, 215 S. Main, Happy Homes Mobile Homes Sales, 500 W. U.S. 40, Basin Wholesale Electric, 400 S. 1000 East., Pizza Barn, Highway 40,Mortensen Car Wash, 50 S. 900 W., (Continued on page 8) Construction.. Eight of the nineteen commercial-industrial commercial-industrial building applicants have already begun construction, Steed said. The total number of buildings inspection during the past five months in the city is 2,366 with the biggest inspection month being last February at 5G5 inspections. Other commercial construction projects which will be continuing this summer will be the Sheriton Motel and the Ashton's Convention Center. The Sheriton should be completed in a few months, and construction on the convention center has resumed after problems with the developer, Steed said. |
