Show Vote be informed Dear Editor: I hope the Deoole who vote on the Ashley Valley Water and Sewer District treatment plant issue on June 15 will inform themselves on what is involved before they vote. Do NOT vote blindly or on hear say. Find out what really is involved, since the election notice propositions published in the papers are hard to understand. Please understand that Proposition I to go with the C.U.P. plant at Doc's Beach hill is an open ended contract with no limit to the amount the C.U.P. can raise the cost per acre foot of water by means of the "emergency reserve" fund. Also the Central Utah Water Conservancy District would be authorized in its sole discretion to issue bonds without limitation as to amount for which the Ashley Valley Water District would be obligated to pay a proportionate amount of said bonds plus interest and costs to treat or store water anywhere in the Central Utah Water Conservancy District. We would never own our treatment plant or have any control or say as to how it is operated or how muchi we are charged! Let's not put control of our culinary water in the hands of a government agency where we have no representation. Vote to own our treatment plant and also have access to Red Fleet water, and who are considering our individual costs. Our locally owned plant would Let's not put control of our culinary water in the hands of a government agency where we have no representation. Vote to own our treatment plant and also have access to Red Fleet Water, and who are considering our individual costs. Our locally owned plant would cost under TWO MILLION DOLLARS while the C.U.P. plant costs over SIX MILLION DOLLARS. The projected operating costs are about in proportion to the building costs, with the Ashley Springs Plant costing much less to operate and be a complete treatment plant instead of C.U.P. 's Alteration plant. Let's not put ourselves in the position " of trying to fight ourselves free from the C.U.P. at a later date. They have left us no way to get out if we don't like what we get into. Provo citizens are ready to fight for their, water rights agains the C.U.P. Mayor Jim Furgeson says the Central Utah Project is swallowing up Provo City's water rights. Let's keep our water under local control. Vote Porposition II. Sincerely, VONDA LEE CURTIS |
