Show Jensen 1 Vera Snow I S Phone 789-0628 . I White Christmas enjoyed in Jensen Too Late For Last Week-Winter was ushered in in proper style, by an all-day snow storm. Tractors with scrapers, and state and county snow plows were kept busy. The community Christmas program was presented Friday evening. Nita Powell had written the script, and Sheila Wheeler created appropriate props. Every child had a spoken part. Just prior to Santa's arrival, Mrs. Drew Christiansen presented each of the 13 babies born in Jensen in 1979 with a stuffed toy. This custom was started 35 years ago by Ruth Haslem. Every child, small and large received a sack of goodies from Santa. Elder Scot Ruppe, returned missionary from Central America, was met by his parents at the Salt Lake Airport Saturday. The plane was IV2 hours late. All friends and relatives greeted Scot at Sunday church services. ser-vices. The all choir musical program was presented at Sunday evening Sacrament services. Violin Christmas numbers by Alisa Warren, the Leon Moons three daughters song, the Powell daughter's "Where is Christmas" Christ-mas" rendition, vocal solo by- Kay Hunting, and the Jr. S.S. childrens singing group made for a special program. A large crowd packed the Chapel and overflowed into the Cultural Hall. Camp Escalante, Daughters of Utah Pioneers met at the home of Daughter Marynell Snow for their regular meeting and annual Christmas party on Dec. 20. Captain Jean Ainge conducted the meeting. Daughter Blanche Wilkins gave the benediction. Christmas songs were then sung. A letter from the Central Camp was read by Secretary Ila Peterson. Daughter Marynell Snow read the song for the lesson. The lesson was "Pioneer Stories." In the absence of Vera Snow, lesson leader, Jean Ainge presented the lesson on "The Christmas Dance" and "The Big House." After the lesson many of the daughters reminisced on Christmas Dances in the Jensen area. Christmas games were played after which potluck refreshments of Christmas goodies were served. Christmas gifts, consisting con-sisting of Christmas goodies, were exchanged by the ten members and two guests present. Leola Dudley and Sonja Snow and her daughter, Courtney, were guests. Ward Murray underwent open heart surgery at St. Mark's Hospital last Thursday morning. He is doing exceptionally ex-ceptionally well. His wife, Verna, is also a patient at St. Marks. Their daughter, Enola Montgomery, is staying out there to be near her parents. Tom Murray is filling in as janitor at the Jensen Chapel. Mr. and Mrs. Barton Snow were glad to have their daughter, Debbie, home with them for a few days last week. Thursday Mrs. Snow accompanied by Mrs. Deon Moon, Debbie, Ronda, and Janice all made a trip to Salt Lake and visited Debbie's tiny twin boys at the University Hospital. All but Debbie returned that evening. Boyd Snow is recovering at his home, after being released from the Holy Cross hospital Thursday of last week. Dale Snow drove to Salt Lake and brought both Boyd and Mary Anne home. Blanche Wilkins, while in Vernal Friday of last week, slipped and fell, breaking her left wrist. A bone surgeon from Salt Lake was in Vernal at the time and was able to care for the fracture. She thinks she will be able to enjoy Christmas dinner at the home of Danny and ReAnn Sessions, her granddaughter, Velda and Jana. The Grant Ainges and Mary Peterson were visited last week by newlywed friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cockburn from Forest Lake, Minnesota. Mrs. Cockburn is the former Kim Eisenreich of Meeker, Colo. The young couple were married Nov. 24 and are honeymooning in the west. They spent three nights in Jensen visiting places of interest in Vernal and witn Grant Ainge as their guide, they toured the Rangely oilfields accompanied by Marba, Susan, and Doug Moody of Meeker and Morgan of Vernal. Marba and Mary took them to the Dinosaur Quarry. Morgan Ainge and family from Vernal were dinner guests at Mary Petersons while the visitors spent the last evening in Jensen. Fran and Gladys joined the group later. The Cockburns planned to visit temple square in Salt Lake; Las Vegas, Nevada, and do some skiing at Vail, Colo., before returning to Forest Lake! where Mr. Cockburn is employed as a city patrolman. Marie Peterson is spending a few days with parents and other relatives. Blake drove over to Rock Springs Saturday of last week and brought her home. Other young folks home for Christmas Christ-mas are Loyal Turner of the U.S. Navy, Pauline Sharp, Cal Ruppe, Mont Warren and Linda Deans from college. |
