Show DUP Vernal meet at Rook home The December meeting of Camp Vernal Ver-nal Dup was held Dec. 21 at the home of Venice Rooks, with Myrl Eaton and Elizabeth Hatch assisting in the arrangements. ar-rangements. A casserole and salad lunch was served serv-ed to sixteen members, and Darlene Evans read the Christmas message to the grandchildren by grandmother Rose Hardy. Ila Herbert was voted in as a new member of the camp. The history of Andrew Vernon was continued by his daughter Bertha Vernon Ver-non Richards. In 1923 Vernon made his first trip to Kentucky and became acquainted ac-quainted with many relatives he had never seen before. He was director and president of Emerald Oil Co. until it dissolved in 1951. He was also director on the Maeser Water Line, and when the town ran out of money before the line was finished he put up the money to finish the line. He was State Land Appraiser and Deputy County Assessor for 12 years. He told of the hardships suffered in 1918 during the flu epidemic and the happiness at the signing of the Armistice, Ar-mistice, late that year. The group was entertained by Janiel Gardner and Thelma Thacker, who accompanied ac-companied them on the autoharp. They sang Christmas carols with the group joining in.
