D Smith as administrative assistant in charge of oC at attendance t- t and discipline at Uintah High School He will be working closely with parents students and the juver juvenile le court Mil I SMITH comes to this position well qualified After graduation from Crom the Vocational Training School in Provo Prove he spent 53 months in the Marine Corps where he saw clearly the value of oC education especially the difference between those who were educated and those who were not Upon his return home he enrolled at BYU where he received his BS and MS degrees He is just completing his doctorate and will graduate in April with a degree in secondary education At Uintah he has served in the resource center Born in Omaha Nebraska ip e y x a ON Ot THURSDAY NIGHT February 24 at pm p.m. The Vernal Jr High School Choral Department will present Its lis first annual Pops Concert In the Jr High School Auditorium There will be no admission charge for this evening of light musical entertainment Everyone Is Invited to attend Mr Smith grew up up in Southern California where he taught Corten for Cor forten forten ten years He was director of oC Vocational Education plus the director of oC a career center for Cor students who needed special help in various subject areas I AM I NOT in this position to hinder students the new administrator said Im here hereto to help make the educational process as palatable as possible Students must be helped within the framework of oC parents and be referred to where they can obtain the specialized help they need Im convinced continued Mr Smith that in very few Cew cases suspension is the answer Suspension is a reward not a punishment Suspension can happen but I would much rather see a student make his own decision in choosing an alternative Mr Smith feels that if IC education is to be successful everyone must work at it- it clubs Industry education parents and students all must be involved Teaching a child to be a good citizen is first and foremost the responsibility of oC parents Then when that child does come to school he will know that we do care about him that we are his friend and friend and that being a friend doesn't mean anything goes' goes emphasized Mr Smith MY IY WIFE Marilyn and I looked at Utah for Cor five years prior to our leaving California said JD JO We picked Vernal and moved here in August of oC 1976 We have not regretted that decision The Smiths have five children Bobbie Bobble Ann 16 Carrie Lynn 14 Chris William 10 Len James 8 0 and Jude David 18 months They are members of oC Vernal 2nd Ward where JD J.D. is a Sunday School teacher leacher and in charge of oC activities s of oC the Marilyn teaches leaches Primary and is q 1 Relief Reller Society visiting ling teacher Mr Smith lists lists family Camily hobbies hobbies hobbies hob hob- bies as dirt bike riding skiing both bolh snow and water waler and most outdoor sports JD J.D. is a along along along long distance runner and said that this was one hobby the family Camily left strictly up to him |
