Show Voice of J e eBy By Norma Damon The Uintah Club of Senior Citizens had a potluck dinner at atthe atthe atthe the Center on Monday February 21 at 1230 pm p.m. Approximately 61 were in attendance at at- Club president Calvin Jorgensen called the meeting to order Following the playing of the Star Spangled Banner Hilda Faulkner led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag nag Edgar Jones gave the opening prayer Minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary Florence Powell A delightful poem was read by Calvin Jorgensen The theme of the poem was Im Awfully Well for the Shape Im I'm In ALAN CRICKMORE Executive Executive Executive Ex Ex- Ex- Ex Director of the Big Dig Brother and Sister Program was the guest speaker This is a wide nation-wide organization that seeks volunteers to spend several hours a week with children from fatherless homes who are from six to sixteen years of age The program is new to this area but since the first of January twenty-five twenty children have been provided with a Big Brother or Sister Even in this short a time these children have shown a definite improvement in school work and family relations It is a goal of this program to help the children become profitable le citi iti e n not t juvenile delinquents There is no financial or legal obligation involved These children need some adult they can learn to trust and by so doing they can trust themselves and learn to work with the system and not fight it So if it you are a senior citizen and would like to help in inthe inthe inthe the Big Brother and Sister Program call Edgar Jones INFORMATION concerning the Utah Coalition of Senior Citizens was presented This is isa isa isa a statewide organization working in behalf of the senior citizens One of the major problems the he Coalition is working on now is the utility rat rates The membership dues are per year Community singing was led by Hilda hide Faulkner |
