C library We didn't really become interested in music too loo much until about six years ago when we started playing In a musical group for church and community programs related Thelma Thacker as she explained her and husband Dans Dan's collection of musical instruments on display at atthe atthe atthe the Uintah County Library We liked music and got together for a musical evening with friends Themore The Themore Themore more we played the more interested we became in learning different in in- in It wasn't long until we had the autoharp autoharp autoharp auto- auto harp dulcimer banjo uke which I play and the electric bass guitar and harmonica which Dan plays also the Mandolin neither of us plays yet Thelma explained the easiest instrument nt to play I 1 1 is the harp auto-harp which requires no lessons just instruction on how to hold it the cords are automatic the musician learns to beat with their fingers on the strings then it takes practice Thelma is the dealer for Oscar- Oscar Schmidt the original harp auto company We along with Doris Burton formed the and Strum Strum- min community group in January i which meets at the library for a fun evening of singing and playing the old favorites Everyone is invited to come and join in whether they play an instrument just jus sing or what ever We meet on the third Thursday of every month during the summer and then ea each h week during the winter r at the library conference room from 7 to 9 she added Thelma and Dan are a both active in the Glines 1st ward Dan serves as assistant Scout Master and assistant Deacon advisor Thelma io is ward music chairman In addition to owning and managing the D Bar T Western Wear Store the are active Inthe in inthe inthe the community Dan serves on the rodeo committee and Thelma is isa isa isa a member of the Uintah Poetry Society and Daughters of Utah Pioneers and entertains with her folk singing and playing at church civic and school groups in addition to occasional entertainment for the older folks They are parents of one son Cary Gary who lives with his wife Marsha and three children in Davis Ward The Thacker display will be shown in the library until the end of May f s r |
