F Lawrence director Div of Water Resources and Fred Duberow state engineer Div Water Resources w. w Water board tours tends attends dam ground breaking The State Board of Water Resources along with wives and special guests enjoyed a two-day two tour of the major Uintah Basin water projects Thursday and Friday of last week On Thursday the group visited the Browns Brown's Draw Ouray Park Irrigation Company Reservoir Cottonwood site and irrigated lands in Ouray Valley The group also visited the Red Hed Fleet Dam near Vernal Saturday the group of 37 people flew over the proposed White River Dam Damsite Damsite Damsite site and oil shale area south of Bonanza Then the group toured Flaming Gorge Dam and generating works The group boarded five boats at Cedar Springs and took a boat trip to Sheep Creek Bay From Sheep Creek the group was transported to the site of abutments are shown The dam will fill this area when finished the Long Park Dam and reservoir where a ground breaking ceremony was held Sponsoring the Long Park groundbreaking groundbreaking ground groundbreaking breaking ceremony was the Sheep Creek Irrigation Company Albert Neff secretary conducted the ceremony and gave the opening remarks Remarks concerning the project were given by Bill Gibson Utah Board of Water Resources board member Robert Rowen Ashley National Forest Beardall Soil Conservation Conservation Conservation Con Con- Service Daniel F F. Stevenson Construction Company in February when the snow was still two feet deep on the ground The early start was was made so the project could be bl finished before winter snows started again said L. C Stevenson The Long Park dam will be an earth and rock structure with gravel chimney drain and cement grouting The dam will raise feet from the ground and span feet at the top The reservoir will have a capacity of feet acre of water The water from the reservoir will be used by the Sheep Creek Irrigation Company which is comprised of farmers farmers farmers far far- mers and ranchers in the Manila area The reservoir will have a conservation conservation conservation con con- pool to assure a good fish habitat At a later date a proposed hydroelectric generating plant will be added to the outlet works |
