Show Blockades. Thus far this winter the vigorous policy pursued by the management of the U. & N. R.R. has prevented any serious blockades, though we have had a good deal of weather that was well calculated to produce them. The record of the U. & N. in this respect is quite satisfactory, considering that so much of its length is new road; and not yet fully equipped with power, or other means of preventing or breaking blockades. On Friday last, however, the terrible weather that prevailed in the region of Beaver Canyon and points further south blocked the road in several places, and caused the freight and passenger trains, due in Logan on Saturday a.m. to be some hours late. We believe, however, that no trips were lost. Every effort was being made on Saturday to clear the road and keep it open, and notwithstanding the wind and heavy falls of snow on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of last week, at points on the road in Idaho, we understand that it was not blocked longer than a few hours at any one point. On Saturday last the freight train from Ogden, due in Logan at noon, had hard work to push through the snow at several points between Brigham and Colliston. ? |
