Show Theatrical. The performance in the theatre last Saturday evening was not as good as our home company generally present. The tardiness in commencing and the coldness of the room had a tendency to make the audience uncomfortable and ill humored. A remedy in the heating apparatus of the theatre is much needed and would be appreciated by those who attend. The company, at quite an expense, has provided new costumes some of which are very nice and added much to the interest of the play. Mr. Bywater as "Rigolio," and Miss Haybell as "Myrtillo, the dumb orphan." Looked [unreadable] and performed their parts well. The principal defect in the performance was the station of the actors who were not familiar with those parts causing several disagreeable "hitches" in some of the most interesting scenes. Another feature to which our attention has been called is the fact that some of those taking the parts of married ladies wear dresses altogether too short to be appropriate, and we think an improvement could be made in this regard. We must not fail to mention the new scenery and excellent stage effect in the storm scene. The performance ended with a laughable farce entitled "Domestic Economy" which sent the audience home in a good humor. |
