Show THE OGDEN SEDUCTION CACE [CASE]. Friday's Junction says: The trial of the scoundrel who succeeded in accomplishing the ruin of a young lady of this city, took place this morning. The defendant, with that "modesty" (?) which characterizes all such villains, demanded an examination with closed doors, and although the father of the young lady expressed a desire that the Junction reporter should attend, this was denied by the defense, and, as consequence, we are unable to give our readers any particulars. Incidental to the evidence for the prosecution - which, in the absence of Mr. Richards was conducted by Judge Williams - P.J. Barratt, for the defense, discovered points which he considered sufficient to make up a common law marriage, the only form in the Territory; and thereupon he objected to any more testimony being given by the "wife" against the "husband." The point was overruled and the case proceeded until 2 p.m. when it was continued till Tuesday next the bail being reduced from $1,000 to $300, the defendant meantime being remanded to the custody of the Sheriff. |
