Show "DEATH BEFORE dishonor!" was the motto of a young man in Danville, Virginia. A few nights since, the youth whose name is Thos. [Thomas] D. Dejarnette entered a bagnio, enquiring for his sister Moll'e (?) Dejarnette, and at his request the two went to a private room. Repeated pistol shots followed. The police broke into the room and the girl was found on the floor, her brother standing by with pistol in hand. He immediately confessed shooting his sister, saying he had done it to wipe out the disgrace of the family. The girl was shot five times, two shots fatal. She protests her brother was right in taking her life and begged that he be not punished. But the brother was taken to prison. He and his sister embraced. The brother is a telegraph operator, aged twenty, and the sister is seventeen years of age. |
