The matter is in good hands. ---- Tramps are growing numerous in this vicinity. ---- Wheat is now 65 cents per bushel in merchandise. ---- There is entirely too much fast riding the streets of Logan. ---- One sign of the prosperity of Logan is the scarcity of houses to rent. ----- Edwin Stratford, Esq., of Ogden was in town Tuesday on business. ---- To-day the sun rises at 17 minutes past 6 o'clock and sets at 3 minutes past 6. ---- The Robin has made its appearance and now we look in very truth for spring. ---- Change is the spice of life, so the weather clerk must think we can live on spice. ---- The shooting clubs of Wellsville and Hyrum are to have a match on Saturday next. ---- The average of eight storms a week is being well sustained in this part of the country. ---- Read the ad of F.F. Petersen, and if you want any work done in his line, give him a call. ---- Yesterday afternoon the old lady picked her geese?, and old Boreas blew down upon us. ---- ???? Kirkham, Esq., the well known artist, has returned from a very successful trip to the South. ---- "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick." People want Spring before they die of expectation unfulfilled. ---- On Friday last, a man was fined $3 and costs in the Logan police court for selling goods without a license. ---- All work in the canyon has been abandoned until spring opens and the danger of snowslides is past. This is a wise action. ---- Last Tuesday people on Main street witnessed the runaway of a job wagon team. The animals were stopped at Z.C.M.I. corner. ---- Elder T.O. Angill, Jr., architect of the Logan Temple, is back in our midst again, having spent an agreeable ??? of two months in Utah's capital. ---- Fresh Figs and Oranges, fine roasted Peanuts and the largest stock of Carmel Candies in town, at the Pioneer drug store on Main street. mar5-tf. ---- Work progresses with commendable energy on the new canal. This enterprise is said to be one of the most important ever commenced by the people of Cache Valley. ---- People who should know, state positively that at least one mine in the mountains east of town already shows an immense body of ore which can be shipped with profit. ---- The U. & N. is pushing forward. Last Thursday forty car leads of iron passed through Logan, bound for the ?????? , to be used in extending the road into Montana. ---- The Wellsville Dramatic Company will appear at Providence in the two plays entitled, "The Two Orphans," and "The ????," on Monday and Tuesday evenings, March 15 and 16, 1880. ---- J.S. Quinney, Esq., Secretary of the Board of Trade, issues a notice for a General Meeting for the purpose of electing officers. Those who are interested should govern themselves accordingly. ---- The temple quarries are still in operation, and stone cutting, etc., is yet going on at the block, but otherwise there is little being done towards the work, and will not to perhaps until warm weather. ---- The U. & N. Trains have had little trouble the past week, the road being clear throughout nearly the full length. The freight trains which have only been running alternate days or some time past, will soon run daily again. ---- Elder Junius F. Wells, Editor and Publisher of the Contributor has been paying a visit to Cache Valley in the interest of his periodical. The Contributor is an interesting and useful magazine and should b e in the families of all the Latter-day Saints. ---- A Registered letter bearing the following address is in my possession: Mr. Paul Poulsen, care Mr. Charles Frank, Logan City, Cache County, Utah, North America. About 11 o'clock this forenoon he called at the Leader office and with a little more than his natural enthusiasm of manner announced the birth of twins in his family. The auspicious event occurred at 8 o'clock this morning. Father, mother, little son and little daughter are doing well. ---- Monday morning last a span of horses which had been carelessly left standing unfastened in front of a business house on Main street, became frightened and dashed southward at a terrible rate. Several attempts were made to stop them but all to no avail. When last seen by our informant they were running westward on First street, while the wagon which they were dragging went flying into the air at every bump. |
