Show A MATTER OF IMPORTANCE. The ordinance published in this issue of the Leader, is one to which general attention should be paid. In some localities on the outskirts of town, tracts of land which have been used for farms are now being disposed of in small parcels for building purposes. Such a project is, in itself good. Every resident wishes to see the city grow and spread, with all reasonable speed. But we do not want any mushroom growth; and therefore every extension should be made with proper care. In one or two instances, it is alleged that land is being sold in the shape of city lots, and proportionate charges made therefore, when, in reality, no correct survey has been made and, streets never having been laid out through fields, parties who ???? are not likely to do so to very great advantage. One section of the ordinance provides that when new blocks and streets are ?? laid out, the survey and location shall be in accordance with those previously made; and a penalty is prescribed for a failure to comply with the requirements. The importance of this matter cannot be too strongly impressed upon our people. If the beauty and order of the city's streets and blocks are to be preserved, this ordinance must be complied with; and it behooves every person who is buying or selling land on the outskirts of town, to see that a survey is made under direction of the authorities, and that the lines specified by law to be heeded. |
