Show EASTERN UTAH ASSOCIATION KILLED The Associated Civic Clubs of Eastern Utah have disbanded as an organization Opinions differ greatly great great- ly on whether this is a step forward for or backward back Only time can tell which opinion is correct and then only theoretically It all came caIne about at the recent meeting at Vernal Vern Vern- al aI called by the Vernal and Roosevelt clubs for the purpose of disbanding An attempt was vas made by the Duchesne delegation to substitute for the dying Association Association Association As As- a strictly Basin organization with new v heads and ideals the East enders enders end- end new v laws by new v by ers were vere too determined in their p purpose to give this idea even fair consideration and the Association went vent out of existence with the one provision that the individual clubs attempt to cooperate with each other otheron on basin problems through a liaison committee of the presidents of the various civic organizations This committee can be effective or not depending upon the energy and of the various club heads The said East r enders were vere apparently much concerned concerned concerned conr con con- over the situation which was vas created with the announced intention of President Henderson to resign resign resign re re- sign his post should the Association continue and they let this condition overshadow v all else Their sole argument was vas based on a hope that the Northern Association will vill do more Inore for us than our own o Association Association Asso Asso- j Asso-j cia tion can I This is poor logic however ho We admit and appreciate appreciate I the help we ve have received from them on the development de de- of highway high 40 While this route is of primary primary mary importance to the basin it is also of real importance im im- importance to Heber Hebel Park City Salt Lake City Provo Tooele and the entire North section of the state and andin andin andin in helping us they were vere also helping themselves Even then their cooperation was vas secured only when we ve had made the first drive through our o own o wn united ef ef- ef- ef forts When other matters come COlne up p for discussion there may be a different picture however ho The Uintah Basin is in dire need right now v of help in irrigation development Blue Bench South My Myton ton Bench John Star Flats and Indian Bench and development in in Ouray Valley are all of primary importance to further further further fur fur- ther progress of the Bas Basin n. n Will the various units of the Northern Association who vho are themselves interested interested interested inter inter- ested in the Deer Creek project and the stealing of our water through the upper Duchesne conversion tunnel be on our side of th the fence or against us on these questions It doesn't take an economic genius to answer ver that question When w we ve e ask for higher educational institutions and better hospital facilities will vill members of the Northern Association join us or of oror oror or would they rather continue to receive the benefits of the money now v spent in Logan Salt Lake City and Provo for these purposes by Uintah Uin fah Basin citizens Another one easy to answer ver and there are many more like them This is not a condemnation of the Northern Association Association Association As As- but a mere facing of facts Association work vork and civic club work vork is selfish every set of bylaws by by- laws vs and rules provides just that and we ve cannot condemn condemn condemn con con- any organization for lack of cooperation where there is no mutual benefit but we ve must face the facts There are many instances where we ve can derive great lest benefit from participation in in the Associated civic clubs of Northern Utah and every Basin club should hold membership in in that organization but there are also many instances where we must b be e united and prepared to fight our own o battles either independently independently independently or as s an integral part of the Northern Association Association Association tion and for this reason it is our opinion that as matters matters mat mat- tel's stand we ve have tal taken en a definite step sen backward back The disbanding action seemed to be proper and inline in inline inline line but the job is only half done A Uintah Basin Organization created solely to consider basin problems problems lems and so set up as not to interfere e with the Northern North North- em ern n Association but rather to strengthen our position position in in it is is s our next move CLEANUP AND P The City wide vide cleanup and p campaign has passed its halfway half mark and clean lawns la smoky skies and occasional loads of refuse heading out of town to bear evidence of early progress These are the early ones however vever the bulk bulls of Duchesne Duchesne's Duchesne's Du- Du chesnes chesne's s property owners o have not yet taken action I Less than half the time remains and the big job is is still ahead Plans for the campaign included the division division division divi divi- sion of the town to into sections and sponsorship of the campaign in these sections by various civic clubs Thursday afternoon these arrangements had not yet been made There is a 1000 prize 11 up n for the club making the best showing ving but i it t will vill be hard hail to determine determine de de- de- de termine which is entitled to the prize if none of them gets o organized to make an effort Duchesne prides itself on being the gateway gate I to the Uintah Basin If the gateway gate is dirty what im impression impression im- im must travelers get o of the entire basin J |
