Earl Case Stake Clerk After a period of several years of drouth and d depression we have had a very successful year that has hai filled our being bing with new newhope newhope newhope hope and determination to press onward and upward Now we feel the world has much in store for each of us With the poet w ws feel e l to say my Come let us anew our journey pursue Roll around with the year and never r stand still sUll Till the Master appear His adorable adorable adorable ador ador- able will Let us gladly fulfill and our talents talents talents tal tal- tal- tal improve By the patience of hope and the labor of love Our life as a dream our time asa as asa asa a stream Glides swiftly away and the fugitive fugi- fugi tive moment tive-moment moment Refuses to stay The arrow is flown the moments are gone the year presses presses presses pres pres- ses onto our view And eternity's here 0 o that each in the day of His coming may say I 1 have fought my way through I have Finished the work Thou give me to do O 0 that each from his Lord may receive the glad word vord wordWell wordWell Well and faithfully done enter into my Joy and sit down on my throne Better Feeling Prevails The past year has b been n a v very ry successful one in all fields of en en- en- en deavor It has hM given us new hope new courage and new determination tion to go on There has been improvement nt throughout t t the h ewards e ewards wards of the tho Duchesne Stake a better feeling now existing among the people and the wards themselves them them- selves Through the untiring efforts of the Stake Presidency they have been bem successful in getting two full time tune S Seminary nary teachers one at Duchesne and the other at Altamont Altamont Altamont Alta- Alta mont high schools Though in order order order or or- der to lo g get t these two teachers the people of the Stake were ere as asked ed to do the impossible that is is build two Seminary buildings building one at each school It was not until in late July that we were v assured of tho the teachers teach teach- ers providing the p people Ople wot would d build the buildings So hastily two building committees wore formed the one at Duch Duchesne with Pres t 1 G. G V V. Billings at the head and the theother theother theother other at Mt t. Emmons with Pres Owen Bennion in charge Needless Ne-edless to sa say they were both successful for within six weeks the two buildings buildings buildings build build- ings were yere finished to the point that classes are now being held in them Two buildings that any stake can be proud of and again it just shows us what can b be accomplished accomplished accomplished ac ac- through a desire and the united effort SemInal Seminary Cost The two building cost each for materiaLs materials materials ma ma- and labor and all came from donations from wards adjacent adjacent adjacent ent to the high schools There is I still some little indebtedness on each of these buildings which we hope soon to clear up We Wo also hope to soon finish these buildings as to painting etc that the buildings build- build iners ings may maV continue to serve us for I I years rears ears to come The teachers Golden Barrett and Walter Kerksiek are men of high moral stan standards ards who can see in our boys and girls the future manhood and womanhood of America America They are ins Instilling into the the minds of our boys and girls such thoughts as these Give to the world the best you have and andI I the best will como come back to you A good name never dies Wo We first make our habits then thoy they make us He who forgives ends the quarrel Increase in Tithing So far this year there has been beena a very substantial increase increase- in Tithing paid into the Church in inthis inthis inthis this stake which is a barometer which indicates the upward trend of the morale of the people In Inthe Inthe Inthe the new Church Security program the wards are gett getting ng back of it itin itin in a wonderful way We have paid in our allotment toward the building building building build build- ing of a n regional storehouse at Park City which at the tho present time timo serves the tho six stakes in the region Sum Summit t South Su Summit t Wasatch Uintah Roosevelt and Duchesne stakes We have havo also sent into this storehouse several I truck loads of food stuffs and have more moro to send when it Is needed All of this has been made mode possible only through increase of offne offne roe number and the amounts of those who have paid in fast of of- At the last Quarterly Conference Conference Conference Confer Confer- ence held in Duchesne Nov Sister Evelyn C. C Moffitt with her counselors Maggie B. B Billings and Edith Pearson were released from the Relief Society Sister Moffitt having served in this organization tion for the past 28 years first as president of the Boneta ward Relief Society when that ward was organized 28 years ago Later she was vias chosen as as a counselor to SIster Sister Sister Sis SIs- ter Holgate in the tho old Duchesne r stake en cn June 20 1920 when tho the Roosevelt and Duchesne stakes I were viere divided Sister Moffitt was chos chosen n as president of the stake Relief Society the position she has filled faithfully and well until the thelast thelast thelast last conference During this period of time she has endeared herself to all the officers of the stake and wards in which she has labored Her life has be been n an inspiration a ray of hope and sunshine to all who have met her Her home in summer is isa isa isa a flow flower r garden sting with beauty and fragrance from early summer until late fall then in the big lighted tree free f fn the living g room There were many whispered conversations conversations conversations con con- and signs and giggles between bet the thc two boys that Jims Jim's keen eyes found Cound amusing Coming home one ev evening ning he surprised them In the act of at smuggling a basket of coal out the back gate Hey fellows I Where y you you u going with that It was Joe who blurted blurted blurt blurt- ed Billie says it aint no good if ya tell Billie hung his head Were just p to be f scouts couts he stammered an this is our good deed We been doin it for tor two weeks weeks' weeks weeks-I I mean coal to Miss Riley She's poor an an deaf an nn an aint got no daddy to get her coal half coal half the time we take it from Joes Joe's house Billie house Eillie looked appealingly appealingly appeal appeal- at JimAn JimAn JimAn Jim An she only h had d a teeny little bit put in Joe staunchly An youre you're to give to folks Chris Chris- mus aint you I 1 salute two mighty fine scouts right now said Jim But first ell well have to make clear the scout ideas of property rights Deliver your coal then come up to my room and well we'll talk things over When old Mrs Riley hobbled to her door in response response to a loud knock Christmas eve she did not see two little boys scamper behind the coal shed but she did see a huge basket filled fined with a generous supply of at food and many bulgy packages piled high high- on the top with a Merry Christmas to you you tied to it I D m Newspaper Western Newspaper r Union J winter her home is filled with width flowers No wonder that when or where- where ever we meet her her countenance countenance countenance ance beams with hope love lov and charity that forget our cares and we look to that which Is bigger and better in life life- Now with a year of sufficient moisture and our water sheds sheda well supplied for this time of year we feel we have a pew new lease on life Then we have ha a number of small res reservoirs fo for the the storing of water these with the new Moon Lake reservoir which we hope to see completed next summer will make the Uintah Basin a good place in which to live |
