A' K 'fas , !. ; I - 'V ' Special Christmas decorations will be installed on Main Street next Monday, accordng to councilman A. J. Orr, who is preparing the equipment. They will consist of two immense stars which will be placed at each of the two main intersections, and which will be augmented by a huge lighted tree in the middle of the block. Efforts were made to obtain strings of colored lights, but none were available even in Salt Lake City, and for this year at least the stars will have to suffice. While the lighting of the stars will usher in the heaviest Christmas shopping season, Duchesne merchants have decided not to prolong business hours until Saturday night, next week. On that night stores will be open until 9 p. m., it was announced, and until 8 p. m. every night after that until Christmas. ' , ' ' f. i The Duchesne high school basketball season- is now in full swing, with a game against South . ,ft 'f Wim - Summit at Kamas Friday, mm Dec- ember 11th. On December 18th in the new gymnasium in Duchesne, the local boys will tangle with the strong Wasatch academy team from Mt. Pleasant. This promises to be an interesting encounter, with Bill Murdock a former Duchesne athlete, on the opposing I team. For the finst time, the Duchesne are having the advantage of practice in their own gym which .should show results. Probable Lineup look bright with Prospects Harvy Hatch and Laird Billings having the upper hand at forward and guard position. A hard scrap is being fought for other positions. Bud Bell and Jack Fitzwater are improving fast, one being an accurate shot, the other being exceptionally fast. The center berth is a problem boys v vs. Alterra at Alterra. Local Masonic Lodge Names New Officers On Installation To Be Held 21st December New elected officers for Basin Lodge No. 20, 5 ir v J 4 7 1937 were of & A. M. at the regular meeting F. at Myton Monday evening. They will be installed on December 21st, following a banquet at which the lodge will entertain its members, ladies of the Eastern Star and partners. Hoy A. Schonian, Duchesne was elected Worshipful Master. Robert L. Marimon and Louis C. Roberts, Whiterocks, will receive the posts of Senior and Junior Wardens, respectively. Bliss ,V. Lott, Myton, was reelected Treasurer, as was H. C. Ward, Myton, Secretary. Robt. Bums, Ft. Duchesne, the retiring Worshipful Master was elected to the board of trustees. Appointive officers Include Titus Jones, Duchesne, Senior Deacon, W. A. Jennings, Myton, Junior Deacon, Wm. Zowe, P. M., Myton, Junior Stewart, W. D. Bishop, Duchesne, Chaplain and Henry Funk, Myton Tyler. Other appointive officers are still to he announced. Tentative arrangements for the installation and banquet call for the event at Myton, Monday evening, December 21st, with a Possible change in place, pending definite arrangements. : A- - - . ' U. S. 50 NAMED AAA FOR ROOSEVELT HIGHWAY ROUTE m tfe: - The Roosevelt highway, to be known as U. S. No. 6, will follow a route from Wig-gins- , Colorado, West through Denver, Leadville, Grand Junction, Colo., Greenriver Price, Helper, Spanish Fork, Thistle, Delta, Utah; Ely and Tona-paNevada and Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, it was announced by the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah. Knowlton Marking Ordered Action on the proposed routing was scheduled for Monday, but due to the controversy, the matter was turned over to a committee for further study and it was only after Thomas H. chief of the bureau of public roads, and members of the Utah estate road committee had given it their support that a decision was reached. The executive committee accepted the and ordered immediate marking of the highway. In Utah many civic organizations, chief among which was the Associated Civics clubs of Eastern Utah, and other groups had advocated the routing into Utah from the east over U. S. 40 through Vernal and the Uintah Basin. In advocating that the Roosevelt highway should enter Utah over U. S. 50, the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah pointed out that it is an route, that all principal roads leading to the national parks and other scenic lands of Utah connect with it, and that accommodations and tourist facilities are better than on other proposed routes. Duchesne Monday, Jl Wli 25 Counties Represented In Convention Of County Officials Two-Da- y With the election of officers for the ensuing year, naming Silas Rowley, county assessor of Carbon county as president, the Utah State Association of County Officials concluded their two-da- y fourteenth annual convention at the Hotel Ben Lomond in Ogden, Wednesday. Mr. Rowley wm elevated from the vice piesldency to the presidency, succeeding J. W. Gillman, Utah county commissioner. Ferrell H. Adams, Salt Lake county of auditor and secretary-treasure- r the organization during the past year, was elected, vice president. Elected as Mr. Adams successor as secretary-treasure- r was O. L. Hansen, Sanpete county auditor. Governor Henry H. Blood gave the keynote address on Tuesday, after Mayor Harmen W. Peary had welcomed the visitors and turned the key of the city over to them. Tuesday afternoon was taken up with special departmental sessions, concluded by an informal banquet and dance in the evening. Other departmental conferences were held on Wednesday morning and in the afternoon Paul Thatcher, Weber county attorney and chairman of a committee which drafted proposed legislation, offered his report. Mr. Thatcher pointed out that the legislative program was submitted after due deliberation and conference with county officials and declared the suggested changes were dictated by the everyday expericences of the governmental units. Attending the convention from Duchesne county were County Recorder Fern T. Moffitt, bounty Assessor, Levi J. Anderton, County Clerk Arthur Goodrich, hla deputy, Miss Edna Lemon and County Treasurer Porter Merrell. All the Uintah county offlcllas with the exception of the sheriff, were in attendance.
