townspeople and with the superintendents superintendent's superintendents superintendent's superintendents superintendent's office and his duties there According to Superintendent Law v who vho was vas responsible for bringing bringing bring bring- ing Mr Bishop into our school system a year ago ago Duchesne county need have no misgivings as to the qualifications of our new nev superintendent and we ve know v of no finer send off for a man Inan to have than such sucha a recommendation Superintendent Law Lav has just submitted to the board of education ed cation his annual report covering the activities of the school system during the year 1935 36 Many worthwhile advances for the system are shown sho in this report the capital investment outlay which will vill provide for the occupancy next fall of a new nev high school at Duchesne a new v elementary elementary elementary elemen elemen- tary school at My Myton ton and a an elementary addition at Roosevelt The T e building program will vill cost a total of with no increase in m bonded indebtedness for forthe forthe forthe the district Weekly visits at the board of education offices have kept the Record staff rather closely in touch with the development of this project and we ve know and appreciate the untiring effort Superintendent Superintendent Law Lav has put into its realization There are many other items contained in in the superintendent superintendents superintendent's superintendents superintendent's super super- s report which show v a a. a decided d improvement improvement improve improve- ment in the school system They reflect credit not upon the superintendent but upon the members of the board as well vell and indicate the interest these parties have had in in better educational facilities faculties Included also with the report are a a. number of recommendations to the board and the new ne Being as yet merely recommendations they are not released for publication but a glance through them show v that Superintendent Laws Law's interest in the district has not lapsed despite the fact th that t he is soon to leave In bidding Mr V La aw goodbye goodby we ve will vill do so with a feeling of concrete loss a feeling which is manifest throughout the county We feel this loss because we ve know v what we ve are are losing Superintendent Laws Law's L vs v's single y year here has P proven oven his ability In all probability probability probability proba proba- Mr Bishop will vill prove a similar ability He may Y possibly prove even superior for no man can lay la Y claim to absolute perfection but this still remains to tobe tobe tobe be seen And so soV V we wish vish them well Mr Law v in his future endeavors at Brigham Young University and Mr Bishop in the post which he has been chosen to fill the new v superintendent of Duchesne county schools TIME FOR A GREEN CEMETERY At the Duchesne cemetery last Saturday Memorial Day the problem of providing water for lawns la trees and shrubs was vas discussed at considerable length There is manifestly much more interest in the cemetery cemetery cemetery tery this year than at any time before Many new v markers and stones have made t their appearance there this spring Through the efforts of the city and relief workers the cemetery is is greatly improved in appearance It will vill continue to have ha a to look however until water vater can be provided for flowers vers and greenery It was vas estimated that at a cost of approximately a pumping plant can be installed on the Strawberry Strawberry Straw v berry river and a reservoir constructed above the cemetery which would provide ample water vater for the purpose With the interest shown sho and the ever increasing increasing increasing in in- in- in creasing number of lots occupied at the cemetery this project should not be hard to put across Contributions ns or assessments from those already I i owning lots in the cemetery and who vho are interested could provide most of the initial cost without being unreasonably burdensome to anyone The city could bear the balance of the initial cost to be recovered by an increase in in the price of lots sold in in the future Maintenance of the plant would be slight and the individuals themselves would in most cases be only y too glad to take care of the lawns shrubs etc A little promotional work vork is necessary though and we v know of no finer project for some one of the civic bodies or some SOUle combination of them to take over at this time Whoever is successful in putting such a project across would certainly have the appreciation 1 of a large proportion of Duchesne's citizenry if wa va- water water wa- wa vater ter could be provided in time for lawn la planting this fall so that we ve could really realY have a green cemetery next Memorial Day |
