Show predictable results Results of a local opinion survey conducted by UtaK State University earlier this year to determine - feelings m proposed routes for highways across this area of ;he state an on to Glen Canyon City were just about what could be expected. Residents of the five counties surveyed (Grand, San Juan, Garfield, Wayne and Kane)' voted for the route that would provide the most economic eco-nomic benefit for their particular area. Response to the study was low, 32.1' per cent of Grand County residents who receivdd the questional ' returned it. In many cases, we are sure the reason Was that none of' the routes presented were the ones residents felt' might be the best. However, an announcment this week' from trie Utah" Congressional 'delegation Has made the entire question ques-tion academic. The delegation agreed all of them on a route from Bullfrog Basin to Glen Canyon City, a major portion of the area encompased in the USU questionnaire. The bill proposed by the joint delegation is expected to be favorably reported out of committee foon after the Congress re-convenes after the Democratic Democrat-ic National Convention and it is also expected that the measure will be passed by both houses of the Legislature |
