Show Aged handicapped will receive special attention "Elderly handicapped will get special attention in programs pro-grams to meet their unique I needs," announced F. Leon PoVey, Director of the State Division of Aging. Regulations recently signed by Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) Secretary. Joseph A. Califano, Jr., require re-quire that federally funded services be made equally a-vailable a-vailable to the handicapped as with other individuals. "Part of what this means in our programs is that our senior centers and meal site locations throughout the state can have no physical barriers such as steps," says Mr. PoVey. These barriers must be removed or new facilities i without any physical barriers , must be located within a ! period of three years begin-I begin-I ning June 3, 1978. 1 Mr. PoVey indicates that compliance with these regula- tions should not be a big jT problem in as much as they ' have been sensitive to elderly I handicapped persons all along I in making programs acces- sible.
