Being ersonally involved with a on who has been arrested n a drug violation, I now the heartbreak and he lost feeling that one eels when they see sonio-ne sonio-ne they love going down , deal end street. I hope hat what I have to say rill in some way help. I have one very sincere equest parents don't iide your heads in lon't hide your heads in he sand. When the suspi-ion suspi-ion or evidence is there hat your son or daughter s getting involved with rugs, don't ignore it, loping the problem will go iway. It doesn't! It get? worse! Make every effort in the world to face ii p to the problem while it in just beginning, and while you can reach your child, for in a very short time when they are using drugs you lose any chance '.f reasoning with then). The drugs turn them on and their reasoning power off. We must all give continued continu-ed support, to the control of the drug abuse which I feel is the most important problem we face today. I don't know the answer, I do have questions. All Satan Sa-tan needs today is for a good man to do nothng. Whenever any law is broken there has to be a balancing factor. A jail sentence is supposed to be ulie balancing factor for a drug abuse charge, though I question under the present system just how effective it is. I know that my son was not without with-out drugs while ho was in jail. I am behind the law one hundred percent however, how-ever, I do feel it should be eonsistant and stable. I feel there must be tighter tight-er controls on the runn.ng of the jail for with the present laxness it has lost its effect. In the past Moab has been a decent place for our children to grow up in and those of us who still have young children want them to have thi-; same benefit and opportunity. oppor-tunity. Let your voices be heard. Contact city, county coun-ty and state officials personally per-sonally and by mail. It has been said, we only fail when we quit. We must not be the silent majority now. We must ACT and GET INVOLVED. Sincerely, Marlene Bailey h Citizens : I want to publicly commend com-mend the officers, both city and slate, who participated parti-cipated in the raid (ami arrest of some 40 people) of the drug, alcohol and beer party last Friday n'ght. They have my full support for the action they took. I am amazed at the ignorance ig-norance of the people who prefer to believe that this was nn innocent little party. par-ty. Make no mistake, there is nothing innocent in a party where drugs, Alcohol, tobacco, beer and foul talk are prevalent, to say nothing no-thing of the varied aire group (15 to 27) of those in attendance. I know that all the people at the party were not stoned out of their heals, some were there just to see what was going on, but let this b a lesson to those so-called innocent ones, not to at. Itend such things in the future. The tales that have been jtold, as to the officers supposedly poking guns into the kids stomachs, ilanting the drugs, etc.. are so absurd, that if the problem involved (drinking and drugs) were not . so serious it would be laughable. laugh-able. The people in this town had better decide right now if they want officers of-ficers who know heir job, do their job and protect the honest citizen and his property, and who are completely com-pletely dedicated to . the uphohlirg of the law; or if they want nothing but a baby sitter. It is proven prov-en that some people in this town think that no act, regardless of how serious, should receive more than a NO-NO or a light tap on the hand. The offices should not be turned into baby sitters and they need your support so that our town doesn't become another an-other Aspen. I have looked into this incident and feel the officers conducted the: raid in a very satisfactory manner. I only hope that this doesn't do-esn't become a political issue, clouding the real lissue of solving the drug problem. We must, however, howev-er, see that the drug problem prob-lem is not turned into a mme of hide-and-seek with a safe boundary line for Hie drug users and Hellers. No officers, or citizen lor that matter, should be restricted re-stricted by a boundary line in enforcing a law or making mak-ing an arrest. If thi a should be allowed to happen then we are in desperate trouble. trou-ble. DEAR EDITOR: Concerning the meeting at Star Hall Tuesday evening, eve-ning, there is one fact that was overlooked and it was brought up several times by parents. Quote, Our "children were only down the river on a "beer bust". It is my understanding that it is against the law for minors, let alone "children" "child-ren" to use alcoholic beverages. bev-erages. Right? Another thing, where did they get the beer? Isn't there a law involved there somewhere ? And third, parents, I ask you, "What is so innocent about a. beer bust?" You think you feel bad now, what if your child had been involved in a car accident coming up the river ri-ver road and had killed some little children or parents? pa-rents? How would you feel then? How quick we are to forget. Just last year in Moab there was a man sentenced, sen-tenced, to prison because he was involved in an accident ac-cident that took the lives of two Moab residents. He only had two cans of beer at Momticello. But that was enough to convict him. Although that sentence was suspended, he was still convicted. I ask you again, "What is so "innocent" about our "children" breaking the laws. God gave parents chil 1-ren 1-ren to lead," teach, guide and direct them. Are we going to direct them the wrong way? Wake up parents, before it is too late. Roberta Knutson |
