Show TB Detection Clinic Set Grand County will be the scene for a tuberculosis tuberculos-is infection detection program pro-gram which will l)e conducted con-ducted at the various schools the week of Sept. 21, according to Hannah I'ittniau, County public health nurse. The purpose of this program pro-gram Is to detect tuberculosis tubercu-losis infection or disease in the community. The tuberculin tu-berculin tests are performed perform-ed by placing a small amount am-ount of material underneath under-neath the outer layer of skin on the forearm. A positive reaction is marked mark-ed by some redness and swelling at the site 48 to 72 hours later. At this time, the student's arm will be inspected by a physician or a nurse. A positive reaction indicates in-dicates that the individual individ-ual has been infected with tuberculosis sometime in the past; it does not mean that the person necessarily necessar-ily has active tuberculosis now. The individual who has a positive reaction will be referred for a chest x-ray and further studies if necessary. ne-cessary. There will be no charge for the tubercuiin' test or for the chest x-ray. They are being sponsored by the Utah State Department Depart-ment of Health Tuberculosis Tubercu-losis Program in cooperation cooper-ation with Grand County. The test will be given to kindergarten students and all school personnel at Helen M. Knight Elementary Ele-mentary School on Sept. 21, and at Southeast Ele mentary on Sept. 22. High School personnel will be administered the test on Sept. 22, and Junior High eighth graders and personnel pers-onnel will be tested Sept. .23. Mrs. Pittman also indicated indi-cated that Indian children and any others who ate interested may be tested if special arrangements are made. 4 |
