Show Near Record Snowfall Reported on LaSals Snow measurements on the LaSal Mountains were taken last Thursday. Thur-sday. March 22. by Max-Davis Max-Davis of the Soil Conservation Con-servation Service of Price and Ed Johnson of the C.S. Forest Service Ser-vice of Moab. The men reported record and near" record amounts of snow on both courses measured. On the lower course at elevation S800 ft.. 46 inches of snow were found with a water content con-tent of 13.8 inches. This is 155 per cent of the long time average and is the highest snow cover ever recorded. The only-year only-year recorded with a higher water content was 1958. when 14.6 inches of water was measured. The upper course measured 6S.1 inches of snow, compared to an average of 49.6 inches. The water content was 20.85 inches, compared to an average of 15.7. Again. 1958 was the only-year only-year to record more snow at this altitude when 79 inches of snow-were snow-were recorded. The officials reported that 3.96 inches of water were recorded in the rain guage since the last reading on Feb. 21. |
