Show TGS Looking At Possible Name Change NEW YORK, March 23 Shareholders of Texas Gulf Sulphur Company will be asked at the annual meeting April 27, to vote on a proposal to change the company's name to "Texas Gulf, Inc." The proposal is contained in proxy material now bein mailed to shareholders. In recommending the name change, the company said in its proxy statement that "the proposed name suggests a broader area of interest, while preserving the valuable good will which the corporation has earned since 1909 under its original name 'Gulf Sulphur Sul-phur Company' and under ils present name which was adopted ad-opted in 1917." Under its new name, the company would continue to be known a? "Texas Gulf," and "TG" would till be its symbol on the New York Stock Exchange with "TXG" on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The compnny said "This . change in name is appropriate to more accurately reflect the company's present operations. opera-tions. In the past decade, Texas Gulf has advanced from a company producing essentially a single product--sulphur to become a broadly broad-ly diversified and international interna-tional company engaged in finding, developing and processing pro-cessing many natural resources, resour-ces, including zinc, copper, lead, silver, cadmium, phosphate phos-phate rock and fertilizer ma terials potash, forest products, pro-ducts, iron ore, trona, sulphuric sul-phuric acid, and oil and gas, in addition to sulphur, both Frasch and recovered. |
