Show Surprise Mayor Nominee Selected by Citizen Party Moab's Citizens Party he'd its nominating convention last Thursday, Oct. 9, with Mars Pope reelected as chairman and Margie Sha-fer Sha-fer as secretary. Sixty-one people attended the convention and a surprise sur-prise candidate was nominated nomin-ated to represent the party in the race for Mayor cf Moab. The incumbent Mayor, May-or, Winford Bunce, was the only one who had announced his intentions to seek the post on the Citizens ticket. Arden Johnson, however, a long-time Moab resident, was nominated and won the party's par-ty's endorsement for the office. of-fice. One point on which persons per-sons attending the convention conven-tion seemed unsure of, was whether or not they could vote at the nominating convention con-vention if they had signed a petition supporting one of the other candidates. They were informed by chairman Pope that they could net vote under these circumstances circum-stances and also were told that if they voted at the meeting, they could not sign any petition thereafter. When these problems were solved, the party went on to nominate Earl (Bud) Blank and J. Kay Hawks to represent them in the race for the city council seats to be filled in November. K.vl Tangrcn was defeated in the race for the council seat and has announced that he would iiot file a petition for ihe post after his loss. Mayor Bunce, on the other hand, IB Arde.i Johnson (See Story, Page A-3 has announced that he already al-ready has a petition and plans to file it by the end cf the week. |
