Show Fiddler Drew Big Crowds At Lions Park on Sunday New Mexico State fiddling champion, Junior Daugherty and his family entertained a large audience at Lions Park, Sunday, July 4. the Daugher-ty's Daugher-ty's were taking home some handsome trophies from the national and regional fiddling conventions held in Idaho and Ogden, Utah, respectively. The large trophy is Junior's 4th place award in the Nationals. He also placed 3rd in the Regionals while 15 year old Tammy, seated at right, placed 3rd in her division in the Nationals. Standing is Mrs. Daugherty who lends moral support and holds the group together. Seated on the ground is daughter Penny, guitarist and vocalist, with her two daughters. The concert, which lasted more than two hours, consisted consis-ted primarily of fiddle and violin duets by Junior and Tammy accompanied by Pen- ny on the guitar, although each also played several solos. Penny delighted the audience with several vocal selections . including a toughing and stearing rendition of her own composition, "Two Little Angels", An-gels", written for her two daughters. The song tells of the joys, the anticipation and the planning for one and then being blessed with two. Following the concert, the group came down off the platform plat-form and visited with the audience while Junior took the guitar and he and Penny played and sang several songs together. The Daugherty's had performed to one of the largest gatherings to assemble at the Lions Park since it was closed to camping some two years ago. Everyone left feeling richly rewarded. |
