Show Firewood Policy Listed by Forest Service With the possibility of a long winter and looming energy crisis, the Forest Service has announced a new firewood cutting policy. pol-icy. Under a recently liberalized regulation, the Forest Service no longer requires a person to obtain a wood cutting permit before cutting and removing dead material from National Forest lands. This is an attempt at-tempt by the Forest Service Ser-vice to encourage people to make use of dead material mat-erial otherwise left to rot; and in turn, create a savings in the nations home heating fuel sup- plies. The cutting and gathering gather-ing of dead material for firewood is allowed throughout the Moab District. Dis-trict. Several areas aug-gested aug-gested by District Ranger Rang-er Dahl L. Zohner are: the logging slash pines near Buckeye Reservoir, and the chained pinyon juniper in Slaughter Flats, Amasas Back and Pack Creek. The relaxing of the perrnit requirement does not apply to individuals cutting firewood for resale. re-sale. Commercial firewood fire-wood cutting still requires re-quires a permit and a fee of $1.00 per cord. Persons planning to cut firewood on National Forest lands are urged to call the Forest Service Ser-vice Office, Phone 259-7211 259-7211 for a current road report. |
