Show Spilled Mails Bring Big Tire Shop Business A Continental bus with 30 passengers, and several sev-eral large trucks were oeidined in Moab Friday morning after suffering flat tires from a box of spilled nails on Highway 50&6 about a mile west of Crescent junction. It is estimated that at least 8 truck rigs were stopped for tire repairs in Moab, Monticello and Grand Junction Dec. 14. There is speculation that the 2" nails were deliberately deli-berately spilled, but State Road Maintenance Supervisor Super-visor Sinclair Thompson, Green River, whodirect-ed whodirect-ed cleanup, stated he felt the box had accidentally dropped from a truck, the nails spilling mainly in the east-bound lane, though scattered across the road. Most of the nails were picked up in tires between be-tween 4 and 5 a.m., and due to light passenger car traffic at that hour, most of the damage was to trucks. Two refrigerated refrig-erated vans with 9 flat tires between them were repaired at Grand Tire; K.E. McDougald reported one of his trucks in at 5:30 a.m. with 3 flats; and Moab Texaco repaired repair-ed a total of 17 flats from 3 trucks. The south-bound Continental Con-tinental bus was delayed in Moab from until ab- out 10:30 a.m., awaiting a replacement bus and new tires. The Utah Highway Patrol Pa-trol reports that at least two truck drivers were warned not to continue on the road during the night Thursday night, leading to the assumption that the nails may have been deliberately dropped on the highway. A search for a Ford and 2 suspects described has turned up nothing, 'and authorities urge anyone who might have information informa-tion helpful in completing complet-ing investigation of the incident to get in touch with the Utah Highway Patrol. |
