Show Membership tea held by Literary Club The Women's Literary Club kicked off its 80th year of service to the community of Moab with their annual membership mem-bership tea Saturday, Sept. 24, 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens' Center. The table decorations were done by division committee members, under the division heading of the Arts, Home Life, Conservation, Public Affairs, Af-fairs, International Affairs, and Education. The vice-president, Joan Shermer, was the general chairman of the event, but President Jen Pope substituted substi-tuted for her-she was absent because of family death. Da Corbin was program chairman. chair-man. The tea table was lovely with the traditional silver and linen. Chicken salad, stuffed cream puffs, punch and coffee were served by the new officers. Other officers besides be-sides the afore mentioned three are Mildred Claus, auditor; aud-itor; Rosalie Robertson, treasurer; treas-urer; and Marilyn Rose, secretary. secre-tary. Prayer was by Howard Knight and the pledge was led by Slim Mabery, who also presented Red Skelton's interpretation in-terpretation of the Dag salute beforehand. Mr. Knight sang "Because," "Blue Bird of Happiness" Hap-piness" and was accompanied by Gen Holyoak. Jim Wiseman presented the Mill Creek Dam proposal for the Grand Water Conservancy Conser-vancy District after which Mr. Mabery sang several old-time folk songs. One was called "Moab, the 'Careless Town"" about the early days in Moab. Marian Pierson announced final plans for the club to host a lemonade party Oct. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Museum Display for the Diamond Jubilee Jub-ilee celebration and Sylvia Levering was named chairman chair-man to finalize plans for the parade entry. Palma Jacobs, flower and gift chairman, presented gifts to new president Jen Pope and ex-president Joan Shermer. Sher-mer. Guests were Mr. Knight, Mr. Wiseman, Mrs. Holyoak, Mr. Mabery, Juanita Wiseman, Wise-man, June Latham, Ruby (Tangren) Lee, Mert Thomas, Jean Corbin and Norah Eu-banks. Eu-banks. The business meeting will not be until Monday, Oct. 10 because of the Diamond Jubilee Jub-ilee celebration and will be at the Senior Citizens Ctr. The next social and lesson will be Oct. 15, 2 p.m. in the same place. Mrs. Corbin and her international affairs committee commit-tee will be in charge. The fall board meeting of the eastern district will be Oct. 22 at the College of Eastern Utah in Price with a drug and alcohol workshop in the afternoon. Membership is still open until Oct. 15. |
