J Open to the public, tho I program will begin at 9 a.m. in tho . council chambers of tho Grand I County Courthouse. A fine array of I expertise and experience in solar J energy is represented by tho five I professionals conducting the work- . shop. All are members of the Now I Mexico Solar Energy Association. I Buck Rogers is a member of ! the Board of Directors of the j NMSEA. He is a consulting J engineer and has recently retired I after 27 years with the University of California at the Los Alamos I Scientific Laboratories. His long- standing interest has beon in the J performance of passive solar I heating systems. . Mark Chalom has a degree in I Architecture and Environmental j Design and has been actively ! involved in low cost applications of I solar energy for the past five years. He has worked on the research, I design and construction aspects of 1 the Sundwellings Project at the f Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, N.M. He I has taught solaradobe principles ' and applications and provided 1 design assistance for rural owner- . builders in northern New Mexico. I Barbara Francis is a full-time I staff member of the NMSEA in ' Santa Fe. She has a Master's I Degree in Architecture in progress at the University of New Mexico. I She teaches Solar Energy in the 1 Home for the UNM Division of I Continuing Education. I Bristol Stickney is a full-time ' engineering consultant for the NMSEA. His prior experience I includes the design and monitoring ' of solur systems for tho Vuldora I Mine Solar Heuting Project in 1 Silver City, Neviida. Ho hu.s been a I research ussistunt for tho Arthur L. Coggins Research Foundation in ' Berkeley, Calif. j Dr. Harold Mansfield is ! president of tho San Juan Solur Energy Association in Durango, t Colo. His home is a solar residence ' designed for the needs of the average homeowner on a city lot. ' 1 le has compiled excellent informa- I tion on current solar energy activity . in the Four Corners. Saturday's program will in- elude basic energy conservation ' techniques as well as practical I applications of solar energy, a J commodity in abundant supply in Southeast Utah. Various types of j uctive and passive heating and ' cooling systems will be discussed I and evaluated. Further sources of J professional, or "just friendly" ) advice will be considered, as well as 1 reuding material. The morning session will be devoted to specific presentations; " the afternoon agenda will be a I workshop format developed accord- . ing to the interests of the participants. 1 Area residents are urged to ' take advantage of the opportunity to compare notes with "pros" in ! the solar energy field. They have no commercial axes to grind. They 1 have nothing to sell except better ' ways to live with the environment of Southeast Utah, instead of ' working against it.
