Show Officials Plan Moab Visit The social security amendments amend-ments of 1967 raise from $1,-500 $1,-500 to $1,680 the amount of total earnings a social security sec-urity beneficiary may have in a year without any of his benefits being withheld, John W. Wainwright, District Manager Man-ager in Grand Junction announced an-nounced this week. He pointed out that this new provision applies to all monthly mon-thly beneficiaries under age 72 but not to any person who is receiving benefits because he is disabled. (Special rules with medical considerations must be applied when people who are receiving benefits because of their disability return re-turn to work.) No benefits will be withheld with-held from a beneficiary if his earnings are no more than $1680 in 1968. If total earnings earn-ings exceed $1680, $1 is withheld with-held from benefits for each $2 of earnings between $1680 and $2880; above $2880, $1 in benefits is withheld for each $1 of earnings. However, no benefits would be lost for a month in which the beneficiary neither earns over $140 in wages nor performs per-forms substantial services as a self-employed person. As under previous law, beginning with the month in which he' reached aee 72 no benefits are withheld regardless of how much a beneficiary may earn. Mr. Wainwright emphasized that, due to these new provisions, pro-visions, it is increasingly important im-portant that people approaching approach-ing returement age realize that they may be able to collect col-lect some social security bene fits although they still continue con-tinue to work. He urged those who wish additional information informa-tion about social security payments pay-ments while still working to see the social security representative rep-resentative when he is in your area. Mr. Howell Culbertson, social soc-ial security representative, will be in Moab, Utah, at the Employment Office on April 9, 1968 between 1 p.m. and 5 p. m. |
