Show 5fe lCommunity Comments A refreshing turnabout was evidenced this week in Salt Lake City when a Moab tour operator actually testified in favor of an application from another to operate next to him, albeit with a little different dif-ferent type of presentation. Tex McClatchy, operator of the well-known Tex's Colorado Co-lorado River Cruises, appeared ap-peared at a Public Service Commission hearing in Salt Lake City, concerning the application of Winnco, Inc., to operate their own transportation trans-portation facilities on the river for the purpose of showing "Canyonlands by Night" this summer. When 'the Texas-owned corporation cor-poration amended their application ap-plication to clear up some points that were in minor contention, ' McClatchy an- nounced that not only would he' not protest the application, but would make some comments com-ments in favor of it.' - Moab's tourist industry can only suffer from conflicts between be-tween those who deal directly with the traveler. We commend com-mend the efforts of those who are now realizing that cooperation coop-eration (or at least peaceful i coexistence) can accomplish a great deal toward promoting promot-ing tourism in this area. young Moab citizens are headed in the right direction. dir-ection. Thev are Larry and Michael Mich-ael Hixon, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hixon. Over the weekend while visiting vis-iting their grandmother, Mrs. William Hayes, on First North street, they noticed some errant er-rant driver had knocked over a stop sign at the corner. Armed with a shovel, the small children did theip best to right the wrong. They dug a hole, and by pooling their , strength, managed to reset the stop sign. Compliments of . the community com-munity to Michael and Larrv. -SJT Commissioner Cal Black of San Juan county, in Moab last week, commented: "If the powerful wilderness advocates ad-vocates love the undeveloped wild country around Grand and San Juan county so much, how come we never see any of them out there?" Cal, who has been a moving mov-ing force in San Juan in opening op-ening up new country to development de-velopment by use of new roads, makes a good point. -SJT-What a blow! Last week, after I had proudly identified myself in my column as a "Hill Hiker," as opposed to the other group of Moab youngsters of my time, the "Creek Runners," Number One Son Tom dropped by to report his activities. Would you believe he'd been hiking along Mill Creek? -SJT We're either too far away, or too small to warrant the effort. It's been nearly two weeks since Moab City passed an ordinance modifying the local lo-cal liquor laws to allow the g sale of beer in cabarets, and ' Atty. Gen. Phil L. Hansen hasn't filed an action of some sort as a result. |
