Show Furncce Fumes Close School Wednesday Furnace fumes flooded the classrooms at Grand county lvh school Wednesday and all teachers and students were d;smissed and ordered to leave the building. Principal Jeston Blewitt stated sta-ted the fumes were detected before the lunch hour, particularly par-ticularly in Mrs. M:irj Don-oghue's Don-oghue's room where students complained or headache. He said the gas company was called to check the situation during the noon hour; the fumes subsided, but it was discovered the furnace lia,' gone out. When it was re lighted after lunch fumes i. tered the building again, anj school was promptly dismi?' sed. Mr. Blewitt said the prob. lem was not with the furnace but with the outside flini which was too low. He said freak south winds carry thP fumes back into the building the same situation forced th closing of the school in tlv fall of 1965. Assist. Superintendent Bill Meador after discussing the situation with the utility of. ficials, said steps would be taken immediately to rake the level of the intake flue He said there was at no tim danger of an explosion at the school. The fumes were burn, ed fuel, which was being car ried back into the building. |
