Mr. and Mrs. Gene Pearson are the proud parents of a daughter born Saturday, August 7 at LDS hospital in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Nola Smith entertained Monday at her home in Lark Heights for friends at a Stanley products demonstration. Those present were Mrs. Boyd Stevens, Mrs. Bob Graham, Mrs. Fred Za-hle- r. Mrs. Thomas Walker, Mrs. Horace Seal, Mrs. Dallas Draper, Mrs Inland Ncilsen. Mrs. Clar- - ence Bingham and Mrs. Dean Ztllar. Light refreshments were served. Mrs. Lloyd Reed and children, Diane, Dixie and Natalie, left Wednesday and Mr. Reed left Thursday for Moab to enjoy a week's .stay in the canyon with friends of Moab. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sandstrom and family are leaving Sunday, August 15 for a week's vacation at May field where Mrs. Sand-strom will visit with her rriothcr. Mr. Sandstrom and son Jackie are on a fishing trip this week. Mrs. Susan Weagel left Wed-nesday to visit her mother in Leamington, Utah. Summer recreation held their final program Tuesday, August 10. An exhibit of what children had made was on display and enjoyed by all. A birthday party was held Saturday, August 7 at Lark re-creation hall for Lois and Darrell Fahrni. Games were played and a delightful lunch was served and enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ball visited Saturday, July 31 with Mrs. Ball's grandmother, Mrs. Alice Murdock of American Fork. Mrs. Frank Gaush is expected to return home Sunday, August 15 from Lava Hot Springs, Ida., ' ' : 'lark' : Joy Seal 901J1 Loy Stevenson and LuAnn Ben-nett of Alberta, Canada, are spending three weeks with rela-tives in Lark. They are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Meyerhof-fe- r and family. Joy Seal returned home Fri-day August 6 from a week's visit with her sister Beverly of Mid-val- e. Mr. and Mrs. Max Seal and son Craig of Midvale returned home Friday, August 6 from a five weeks' stay in San Francisco, where Max has been attending a salesmen's school. Mrs. Hgrace Seal, Mrs. Thomas Walker and Mrs. Dallas Draper attended the graveside services for Claude Christensen of Herri-ma- n this week. Mr. Christensen was killed in Germany in May 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Parry of Herriman were guests Sunday of Mr.' and Mrs. P. W. Peterson. The Western Rock Bit Manu-facturing Company has just gone into full production in it new $150,000 plant in Salt Luke City. Largely locally owned, this com-pany, housed in a 5,000 squar-- ' foot building, will produce 3,:j00.-00- 0 bits annually. The bits an; used in the mining and construc-tion industry. The United Concrete Pipe Co. of Pleasant Grove and Los An-geles, Calif., have just spent more than $100,000 remodeling their Pleasant Grove production plant. The plant can now produce the huge pipe with the use of all modern conveniences. They have the contract for furnishing pipe for a 7 1 2 mile section of the Salt Lake uqueduct. Spotlighting I UTAHJ Melal Mine Produce 158 Million Dollars in Utah An all time record was made in Utah's production of the five principal metals during 1947, ac-cording to figures just released by the U. S. Bureau of Mines. The value of gold, lead, copper, silver and zinc amounted to $158,100,773 a new high record. Utah's mines during 1947 pro-duced more gold than was pro-duced in any other state. The yield was the highest in the state's history, 421,662 ounces and its value was calculated at $14,758,170. Copper production during 1947 amounted to 553,066,000 pounds which was a gain of 133 per cent over the previous year. The value of the yield was placed at $111,-943,86- 0. Silver also had a good year with a production of 7,780,032, a gain of 89 per cent over the pre-vious year. Our silver production , was valued at 7,040,939. Lead showed a 62 per cent in-crease in production amounting to 99,396,000 pounds valued at , $14,313,024. Zinc likewise showed an in-crease in production volume with a 36 per cent increase which to 87,346,000 pounds, worth $10,044,790. Over a period of years Utah has been near the top among the leading states in the production of these five important metals. Uranium Test in Grand County At the request of the Atomic Energy Commission, the Depart-ment of Interior has withdrawn from entry and reserved for the exclusive use of the government, 115 square miles of public land in southeastern Utah and south-western Colorado. The' commis-sion in cooperation with the Geo-logical survey will make com-prehensive studies and tests look-ing for uranium bearing ores. Lands found to contain uranium will become available for de-veloping and mining by private interests upon arrangements made with the government.
